The Sailrite Big-N-Tall Long Arm Sewing Machine is for professional canvas workers or amateurs wanting the biggest and the best. Underarm space is huge at 18 inches horizontally and 6 inches vertically. The foot lift is also an impressive 1/2" with a convenient treadle foot lift pedal. The Big-N-Tall is a straight stitch, single needle machine with compound feed and needle feed. Stitches are the normal "lockstitch" type. With this machine you can sew consistently long, high quality stitches up to 9mm length in both forward and reverse.
Feeding power is aided by a large feed dog and the precisely adjusted compound walking foot. This feeding system incorporates a needle which moves in time with the lower feed dog and the upper center one. When the needle is not in the fabric, an outer upper foot firmly holds the material in place. Once the needle enters the fabric this foot lifts its grip of the fabric assembly and the needle, walking foot and feed dog all move the material. The Big-N-Tall can pull the heaviest of canvas items with minimal operator assistance.
Sailrite's Big-N-Tall long arm sewing machine is powered with our own MC-SCR power system (a Sailrite exclusive). This system features a small 120 volt DC motor and motor control providing excellent slow speed control as well as the speed and power expected of an industrial machine. Input power is 120 volt AC. This power system is proven --- there have been zero failures in the course of its five year existence.
Other advantages of Sailrite's Big-N-Tall Long Arm Sewing Machine include: an integrated bobbin winder with thread trimmer, an automatic lubrication system, and a safety clutch mechanism. The safety clutch is designed to allow the lower shaft of the machine to slip should the hook become jammed by thread or stop in a violent manner. Pop the clutch back into gear by depressing a button on the bed of the machine while spinning the balance wheel clockwise --- no more downtime for timing readjustment.
The Sailrite Big-N-Tall is a available in one complete package. It is not portable. The machine head alone weighs 142 pounds as it ships. When the whole package is assembled the overall weight is roughly 200 pounds. Shipping is via UPS in multiple boxes. Assembly and setup is easy! Sailrite's included "Big-N-Tall Long Arm Sewing Machine DVD" video will walk you through the entire process.

Sailrite Big-N-Tall Long Arm Sewing Machine in Power Stand with MC-SCR is a railroaded pattern
Reduce Seaming with Railroaded Fabric
Most upholstery fabric is 54 inches wide and, if it features a pattern, the pattern is run down the length of the bolt. When upholstering, it generally looks best to run a patterned fabric from the top to the bottom of the piece and from the back to the front. This requires seams every 54 inches on larger pieces like sofas and long boat cushions. Alternatively, a Railroaded fabric pattern can be used to eliminated unwanted seams. The patterns in Railroaded Sunbrellas run across their widths. This makes Railroaded Sunbrella perfect for these longer projects.
In this illustration, the fabric rolls out to cover the cushions without need for a seam.
This is a photo example of the railroaded fabric coming off the roll.
This is a photo example of fabric that is not railroaded coming off the roll.
In this illustration the fabric rolls out vertically, and for this type of single cushion, would require several seams to cover the couch.
