Webbing
Sailrite carries many different types of webbing or strapping; Nylon, Polyester, Polypropylene, Spectra and Tubular webbings. Under each webbing category you will find a description detailing what each type of webbing is best used for. Be sure to pick the correct webbing for the appropriate outdoor marine or home application.

Nylon Webbing
Ideal for sail corners. The extra heavyweight nylon is perfect for safety straps, tethers, jacklines and wherever maximum safety is required. Nylon webbing is the most ubiquitous fiber found in marine webbing. Because it stretches the most of all four fibers, loads are distributed evenly over its entire length giving it an extremely high breaking strength. It can be dyed. Nylon shortens with UV exposure and gets more and more brittle.

Polyester Webbing
This Polyester webbing is rugged and has excellent UV resistance for a marine webbing. Use polyester webbing for sail corners, hiking straps, bag handles, tie downs, reinforcement, trampolines, nose pieces for kites. Polyester webbing stretches very little yet has roughly 70% of the strength of nylon webbing (in similar constructions). Polyester webbing also holds up best to UV exposure (great for marine applications) with roughly two to three times the durability of nylon webbing. Downside? It costs quite a bit more than similar nylon webbing and polypropylene webbings.

Polypropylene Webbing
This webbing is great for bag handles and multiple other uses. Not as UV resistant as Polyester or Nylon webbing. Polypropylene webbing has a very low specific gravity (it floats) and it takes dye readily so it’s available in a wide range of bright colors. Polypropylene webbing stretches relatively little when loads are not extreme (relative to its breaking strength). Polypropylene webbing does not resist exposure to UV well and becomes brittle and eventually turns to powder in the UV.

Spectra Webbing
Spectra webbing is lighter than Kevlar and does not absorb water, has excellent UV resistance and flex characteristics and is a very strong, low stretch fiber. Ultra high molecular weight Polyethylene (known as Spectra) stretches the least of all four fibers and has strength surpassing that of nylon webbing. Its UV resistance is better than that of polyester webbing. The best marine webbing we carry.

Tubular Webbing
Tubular webbing is thicker and bulkier than standard webbing with a hollow center. Tubular webbing is good for use as bag handles, hiking straps or any where you want more strength.
Tubular webbing is rugged and has excellent UV resistance for the marine environment. Use for sail corners, hiking straps, bag handles, tie downs, reinforcement, trampolines, nose pieces for kites. Sold per foot.
