Dacron tape is a convenient preslit sail tape for sail repair of rips and tears. Some tapes are wide enough for patching holes. The tape in this category does not include an adhesive back side. It is heavier and should be used for more permanent sewn repairs. Use double sided basting tape (seamstik) to hold this tape prior to sewing. Then sew around the patch perimeter.
Sail repair sticky tape is an on-board necessity for urgent sail repair while at sea. Be sure to keep a roll or two in your repair kit! Use Nylon repair tape for spinnaker and drifter repairs. Dacron sticky tape is primarily used for temporary repairs to working sails (main, jib, genoa). There is also a Kevlar/Mylar sticky tape for racing sailors. The use of sticky tape can be made more permanent by sewing around the patch perimeter.
Prevent potential sail damage by wrapping rough and sharp objects with Rigging Tape. Use Rigging Tape to cover exposed cotter pins, turnbuckles or any sharp protrusion that may harm sails, running rigging or people.
