If your industrial sewing machine setup is running off of a clutch motor, you might want to consider upgrading to a Servo motor instead. The Workhorse is suitable for full-size industrial sewing machines. Older sewing machines currently running clutch motors can be given new life with a new Servo motor. The Workhorse Servo Motor only runs when your foot is on the pedal, in contrast to the constantly running clutch motors. This makes Servo motors more energy efficient and quieter than a clutch. The Workhorse also offers a slow, stitch-by-stitch start that you can’t get from a clutch motor, making it a great choice for sewists who need slow speed sewing for detailed work, even in heavy assemblies. The Workhorse also features an adjustable maximum sewing speed that limits the top speed even when you push the pedal all the way to the floor, giving you total control of your sewing.
Replacing your clutch motor with a Servo motor is a simple, straightforward process. Here’s a quick video to show you the steps required.
In the video you may have noticed that the belt on our sewing machine was too short for the Workhorse Servo Motor and we had to add links. Your existing belt may or may not be the right length for the new motor. We recommend using the 3L Power Twist V Belt (#100815). This belt fits with the silver pulley, has adjustable links and can be ordered by the foot. You can measure your current belt to determine a starting size for the 3L Power Twist V Belt.
