Prepare your sail for a reefing or furling unit with continuous support tape installation and luff reduction.
Modern reefing/furling units make use of a continuous support tape along the leading edge of the sail. This tape slides into a groove in the furler. The wire or rope, and all snaps and grommets must be cut away to install the continuous support tape which is then sandwiched over the edge of the sail.
At the same time that the tape is installed, it may be desirable to shorten the luff because the drum and swivel of the furling unit reduce the usable maximum sail hoist.
Complete instructions and materials come with this kit which features #6 continuous support luff tape. The tape is made up of two small hard braided cords that are sewn into a 5" wide, 6oz Dacron tape that is folded over them. The diameter of the primary line varies depending upon the continuous support tape selected. A second 1/8" back-up cord is used just behind the first cord to keep the sail from jamming.
