These Schmetz sewing machine needles are high quality i.e., without burrs which can cause the spearing of thread. These needles have a completely round shank that inserts into the machine versus a home sewing machine needle which usually has one flat side.
Note: needle sizes are listed two ways, e.g., a #14 needle is also a 90 needle. A #12 is a small needle. A #20 needle is a large needle.
