A leak around deck hardware is not only annoying, but it can also damage your boat. In our short video tutorial, we’ll show you how to properly bed deck hardware using a sealant. When your boat hardware is correctly bedded, it won’t need to be redone. Let’s show you how this is done.

When bedding deck hardware, it’s important to use the right sealant for the application. 3M™ Marine Mildew Resistant Silicone seals and waterproofs holes while remaining flexible. It can be used on plexiglass and Lexan surfaces, but it’s not intended for continuous use below your boat’s waterline. You need to make sure the area on your boat is clean and dry prior to applying the sealant covered hardware.

Watch our quick video to see how it’s done.

Butyl tape can also be used to bed deck hardware if you don’t want to use a silicone gel. We have another how-to video “Bedding Deck Hardware Using Wood Screws & Butyl Tape Video” (200522XHT) that shows you how to use the Butyl tape method.
