Description

Ideal for cockpit cushions and exposed outdoor furniture. Dry Fast Open Cell Antimicrobial Foam is a great-quality open cell foam, also known as reticulated foam, with a solid, firm feel. The open pores in the foam allow for water and air to pass through, making Dry Fast foam a great choice for marine and outdoor applications. Its antimicrobial properties prevent the growth of mold and mildew—another reason to choose Dry Fast for your boating and outdoor seating needs. This is not a high-density foam; therefore, it should be selected for occasional-use applications.

Dry Fast Open Cell Antimicrobial Foam’s superior airflow and heat dissipation, as well as its excellent water drainage capabilities, make it well suited for patio cushions and cabin seating. This foam has a firm stiffness, a density of 2.2 pounds per cubic foot and a foam IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) of 70 pounds. Its firm stiffness and moderately high density make the 3-inch-thick Dry Fast foam the best choice for cockpit cushions. Its firmness reduces the chance of losing your footing as you move around the boat, while still remaining more comfortable than closed cell foam.

Sailrite recommends covering Dry Fast foam with a high-performance, breathable fabric like Sunbrella for the top and sides and Phifertex mesh or Cushion Underlining for the bottom to allow moisture to escape. You can also use Phifertex Plus on all sides for a cushion with optimum breathability. The result is a virtually maintenance-free foam in sun, rain and even snow. With Dry Fast foam, your outdoor cushions will not retain water.

The Sailrite® Blade Foam Saw expertly cuts through a full range of foam types. A standard electric kitchen knife can also be used, though the results won’t look as professional. To glue two pieces of foam together, Sailrite recommends using spray adhesive. Foam can also be glued on the sides to make a wider piece or layered to make thicker cushions. If layering foams with different stiffness levels, the firmer foam should be the bottom layer.

Please Note: Sheet size may vary up to 2 inches in length and 1 inch in width.

Important: Items are compressed for shipping, we recommend unrolling as soon as possible. Compressed foam takes up to a week to regain its original size and shape. Allow foam to fully decompress before cutting or using in a project.

I called before ordering to get more information and decide on the best foam for patio cushions. From the info gathered in the call, I ordered the 3” Dryfast Foam. It appears to be a good quality foam. I have tried it out with a layer of batting and have to say that it is very firm. Unfortunately it is not really comfortable to sit on for any length of time. I weigh about 200 pounds. My wife weighs less and also said it is too firm. I tried giving it some weeks to soften, but it is still uncomfortable. I am disappointed, as I called beforehand to try and avoid ordering something that wouldn’t work out.
