Sewing your own DIY patio furniture covers, grill covers and more is simple with the help of Sailrite®. We’ve hand-picked a large selection of weather-resistant outdoor fabrics that are perfect for making custom covers that protect your furniture and accessories from rain, snow, sleet, UV damage, mold and mildew. Constructed from fine-quality materials like vinyl- and acrylic-coated polyester and 100% cotton, these heavy-duty, all-weather fabric options are highly water resistant or completely waterproof with properties that allow them to endure in extreme temperatures.
We supply many high-tenacity weave fabrics that are flexible yet durable and very easy to secure around large, complex shapes. For patio furniture covers, we recommend using Sur Last® or Top Notch® 9 fabrics. Top Notch 9 is a solution-dyed polyester with a fluorocarbon finish and is breathable, reversible and water repellent. Sur Last is another great, high-quality solution-dyed polyester that makes an excellent choice for furniture and grill covers. Top Gun® 1S is also a great choice for covers where color transfer is a concern, as this material features a pigmentation-free underside.
Regardless of which fabric you choose, it’s important that you opt for material that’s completely waterproof or extremely water resistant, especially if you’re looking for long-term covers that you can use during the cold, rainy months. Additional factors to consider are UV resistance, abrasion resistance and breathability. Although you may not consider breathability to be of the highest importance when it comes to covering applications, consider that the more airtight the fabric, the more likely the growth of mold and mildew.
