Description
Medium Density Polyurethane Antimicrobial Foam, formerly known as Reflex Biocide Foam, is the standard foam choice for the marine industry. Sailrite is proud to offer this popular foam with antimicrobial properties to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. This foam has a medium stiffness, a density of 1.8 pounds per cubic foot and a foam IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) of 45 pounds.
Medium Density Polyurethane Antimicrobial Foam is an excellent choice for marine upholstery and partially protected outdoor cushions as its antimicrobial properties mean it can stand up to moisture and remain mold and mildew free. It is recommended for occasional indoor use and is not appropriate for frequent, everyday use and high-traffic environments. For a heavy-use foam, consider High Density Polyurethane Foam from Sailrite. Medium Density foam can be wrapped in silk film to help keep moisture out, which is especially important when used in wet environments.
The Sailrite® Blade Foam Saw expertly cuts through a full range of foam types. A standard electric kitchen knife can also be used, though the results won’t look as professional. To glue two pieces of foam together, Sailrite recommends using spray adhesive. Foam can also be glued on the sides to make a wider piece or layered to make thicker cushions. If layering foams with different stiffness levels, the firmer foam should be the bottom layer.
Please Note: Sheet size can vary up to 2 inches in length and 1 inch in width.
Important: Items are compressed for shipping, we recommend unrolling as soon as possible. Compressed foam takes up to a week to regain its original size and shape. Allow foam to fully decompress before cutting or using in a project.

Excellent
I recently made outdoor cushions for my patio furniture. I had never made cushions before, but I watched the Sailrite videos and went through the Sailrite flow chart on which foam to purchase for your project. Going on the assumption that these people know what they are talking about and with much trepidation, I purchased the medium density polyurethane antimicrobial foam. When the foam arrived, I really thought that it was too soft, but after following all the instructions on cutting the foam 1/2" larger than the finished cover dimensions and cutting the boxing at 2 /12" rather than 3" (even using batting), my Sunbrella cushions are firm yet comfortable to sit on. I couldn't be more pleased. Better than anything I could have purchased.
