Straight Stitch Sewing Machine Comparison Chart (PDF)
Looking for a straight stitch sewing machine? You’ve come to the right place! At Sailrite® we offer three types of straight stitch only sewing machines: the Sailrite® Ultrafeed® LS-1, the Craftool® Pro Stitch Master® Sewing Machine by Sailrite® and the Fabricator® Sewing Machine. They are dependable, high-quality machines, but they have some important differences. Use this comparison chart to help you determine which machine best suits your sewing needs.
While all three are great straight-stitch only machines that can tackle a variety of sewing projects, one of the biggest differences between the machines is size. The Ultrafeed LS-1 is a portable sewing machine. The Fabricator is a full-size, industrial sewing machine, and the Stitch Master machine head is the same size as the Ultrafeed, but it's set in a compact worktable for a permanent sewing station.
If space is an issue for you, or if you’d like the convenience of being able to pack up and put your sewing machine away when not in use, the Ultrafeed LS-1 is your best choice. The Fabricator needs to be set up in its stationary sewing table, so you need a workspace that can accommodate the full-size machine. The Stitch Master is also a stationary setup, though its tabletop is about half the length of the Fabricator table. The Stitch Master, therefore, is a great choice for someone who wants a stationary work area but doesn't have the space for an industrial sewing machine.
The Fabricator is a great choice for small business owners and enthusiastic DIYers looking for a professional-quality machine that can take their sewing to the next level. It is designed with small upholstery and canvaswork shops in mind due to its ability to sew stitch by stitch and up to 1,108 stitches per minute. The Fabricator is a full-time production sewing machine.
The Ultrafeed LS-1 and Fabricator can sew canvas, denim, vinyl window material, upholstery fabrics, drapery material. Both machines can also sew leather with the appropriate specialty presser feet and some easy adjustments. The Stitch Master, on the other hand, was engineered with leatherworkers in mind. Its stitch-by-stitch slow speed control and built-in speed reducer are essential for the precision and accuracy required in leather crafting. The presser feet and feed dog on the Stitch Master are knurled so as not to mar or damage leather's delicate surface.
The Fabricator has a longer stitch length — 8mm compared to the 6mm stitch length of the Ultrafeed LS-1 and Stitch Master. The Fabricator also has a higher presser foot lift than the other two machines, which means it can handle slightly thicker applications.
These sewing machines are dependable powerhouses for your straight stitch sewing needs. Use our chart to compare the machines and determine which one is right for you. We offer one version of the Fabricator (either 110V or 220V) and a 110V version of the Stitch Master, but the Ultrafeed LS-1 comes in three packages: BASIC, PLUS or PREMIUM. The packages are priced differently and offer various add-ons and accessories based on your sewing needs and budget.
