Flat braided elastic is a flexible stretch material designed to create comfortable, adaptable fits in a wide range of applications. Often sewn into waistbands, sleeves, and hems, it delivers reliable stretch and recovery, helping garments stay in place while allowing easy movement. Because it lies flat against fabric, it works well in clothing, accessories, and light industrial uses where both comfort and durability matter.

In crafting, flat elastic can be used to add tension to bag pocket openings, for tool loops, and similar projects. It is also widely used in sailmaking, where it is sewn into the front of batten pockets to maintain tension on the battens and prevent them from working loose. Keeping the battens positioned fully aft in their pockets also helps reduce leech flutter, improving sail performance.

This product is typically about 70% polyester and 30% rubber (latex) making it the best for outdoor applications. Because it narrows when stretched and can lose stretch if stitched through, it is usually sewn inside a fabric casing or sleeve at its ends, rather than stitched directly through multiple times.
