Spinnaker socks are popular for good reason—they make spinnaker setting and dousing easier, and they protect your valuable sail investment. Both cruising and racing sailors use spinnaker socks.
Sailrite introduces an extremely effective spinnaker sock which you can make on your home sewing machine. The design is simple. A tapered sleeve or "sock" is constructed from a white polyester mesh fabric. A stainless steel ring or "hoop" is inserted at the bottom and a pennant with a block is secured to the top. A rope harness attaches to the hoop and a control line is secured to the harness. These lines run through a colored nylon pocket on the outside of the sock to the block at the top of the sock and then back through the pocket where they exit. This line assembly is used to raise or lower the sock.

For leech stay length of 18' to 21' The hoop holds the sock open when raising or lowering. The exterior pocket contains a single continuous control line keeping it out of contact with the sail and eliminating fouling. The Harken block at the top of the sock makes the line run smoothly. A wire pennant (constructed and finished by Sailrite) with a swivel at the head allows the sock to rise above the sails head so it does not interfere with sail shape. The breathable mesh sock fabric allows the sail to dry when stored. The colorful exterior pocket visually indicates if the sock is twisted. An easily gripped 3/8" control line is used. All wear points are reinforced. And it is easily rigged. Instructions are clear & well illustrated. All you need are scissors for cutting, a sewing machine for stitching and a hot knife or wood burning tool for sealing openings.

To select sock size simply determine your sails leech stay length. Use that length if the sail is either an asymmetrical (a cruising spinnaker) or a symmetrical (regular spinnaker). Body of the sock is white. Exterior pocket color varies.
