Tenara Thread is Guaranteed for Life! The unique PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) fiber construction of GORE Tenara thread extends the life of fabric seams and ultimately the products in which it is used. Tenara thread has high strength and durability that for over ten years has proven to be unaffected by exposure to UV radiation, cleaning agents, pollution, saltwater, air, rain, and snow.

Tenara is a totally UV stable thread and is a completely rot resistant thread. This outdoor thread is great for awnings, campers, tarps, marine boat canvas and more. This ultra violet stable thread will not rot if left outside year round. Remains colorfast and flexible even in extreme temperatures and frost. Although more expensive, Tenara is a greater value than other polyester threads when considering life span and re-stitching costs. Choose Tenara thread to improve the performance of fabric and outdoor projects where seam life and integrity are of the utmost importance!

Lifetime Warranty: "Tenara sewing thread...will not be damaged by exposure to sunlight, weather, or water during the life of the fabric with which it is used. This warranty does not apply to boat sail..."

Tenara M1000 is similar in weight to V-92. Breaking strength is 8 - 10 lb. while V-92 is 14 lb., but Tenara does not lose strength over the years. Use a smaller than normal needle (#16 or #14) to hold thread in proper loop and to create smaller holes that prevent fabric leakage. Tenara thread does not require as much upper tension as normal polyester thread.

Tenara Thread Features:

  • Completely resistant to UV sunlight
  • Unaffected by salt water, cleaning chemicals, temperature extremes, or acid rain
  • Will not rot or mold
  • Colors will not fade (UV stable thread)

Hints for Sewing with Tenara Thread from Sailrite:

  • Sewing with Tenara/Gore-Tex thread can be difficult and frustrating at times. Here are a few tips for working with this thread and some easy adjustments that you can make to Ultrafeed sewing machines which should help.

  • Tenara/Gore-Tex thread is very slippery and often requires the use of a smaller needle. We recommend using a No. 16 or No. 14 needle and for Ultrafeed machines the new “Serv7” needles work well. The problem which occurs with a too large needle is that the shaft of the needle does not hold the slippery thread firmly enough against the fabric to enable the formation of a proper loop and, so, the hook cannot catch it and form a stitch.

On the Ultrafeed™ sewing machines, if using a smaller needle or Serv7 needle does not work and stitches are still being skipped, try one or more of the following:

  • Lower the needle bar slightly. This will have a tendency to increase the size of the loop and make it easier for the hook to catch it and form a proper stitch.
  • Slightly rotate the needle in a clockwise direction. The long vertical groove in the needle normally faces to the left when you are sitting in front of the machine. Now it will be angled slightly toward the back of the machine.

On Ultrafeed™ machines, if the material puckers, stitch knots are pulled to the upper side of the material or the thread is breaking:

  • Increase bobbin case tension by approximately a 1/2 turn.
  • Decrease upper tension by approximately a 1/2 turn.
  • Thread breakage can also result if the thread is “kinking” as it comes off the cone. These kinks will also cause tension inconsistency. The only solution is to remove the kinks before the thread gets to the machine—if necessary have a helper hold the thread cone sideways and twist it (usually counter-clockwise) to remove the kinks as you sew.

These are general guidelines. Feel free to experiment with these adjustments in order to fine-tune stitch quality on Ultrafeed™ and other sewing machines as well.
