Sailrite® Leatherwork® Sewing Machine

Step Up Your Leather Game

Whether you are an amateur DIY leatherworker or run a small leather crafting workshop, this leather sewing machine is exactly what you need to sew up to 16 oz. or 1/4-inch total thickness of leather. This is a truly one-of-a-kind sewing machine made specifically with leatherworkers in mind. The beauty of this leather machine is its compact size and small tabletop. It's ideal for small leather workshops and DIYers who need a space-saving stationary sewing setup.

Leather crafters demand precision and accuracy in their sewing and stitchwork. That's why we designed the Leatherwork with a built-in speed reducer which — combined with our Workhorse® Servo Motor, oversized balance wheel and two-belt drive system — delivers incredible slow speed power and control for beautiful, professional-looking stitches.

The Leatherwork fills a hole in the leather sewing machine market. Most leather sewing machines are industrial size and very expensive. They are intimidating and unattainable for DIYers and those wanting to get into leather crafting. This is where the Leatherwork comes in. Its compact size fits in any room — small workshop, garage, spare bedroom, etc. — and the table is unobtrusive. It's easy to lift the machine out of the tabletop should you want to move your sewing setup to another room or take your sewing machine to a farmers market or convention.

For leather enthusiasts who are currently hand stitching leather and want to expand their skill set and greatly speed up the sewing process, the Leatherwork is the machine for them. Its price point is attractive compared to full-size industrial leather sewing machines. Best of all, it's designed and engineered by Sailrite, a company whose reputation for outstanding machine performance, quality and dependability is uncompromising.

What Can It Sew?

The Leatherwork Sewing Machine was specifically designed with leather crafters in mind. Wallets, straps, bags, belts, lanyards — these are just a few of the things you can sew with the Leatherwork. The machine easily handles leather up to 16 oz. or 1/4 inch thick. But that doesn't mean you're limited to only sewing leather! You can also sew canvas, upholstery, denim and more with a few simple adjustments to the machine.

With a 3/8-inch presser foot lift, you can sew a variety of materials with ease. The walking foot works with the feed dog to pull thick layers of material through the machine at consistent speeds for symmetrical stitching. The walking foot can climb over various material thicknesses without skipping stitches.

Leatherwork Features

The all-metal internal components and cast-iron body are robust and made of high-quality materials. Technology proprietary to Sailrite puts the Leatherwork in a class of its own. The machine is fully assembled, fine-tuned, oiled and tested at our Indiana manufacturing facility. You can be confident in knowing that every Leatherwork machine that leaves our facility has been individually tested and runs perfectly. All you have to do is assemble the table and install the motor and machine, and you are ready to start sewing!

Oversized Balance Wheel

The Leatherwork comes with the oversized Power Plus® Balance Wheel. Twice the size of a traditional balance wheel, the resulting gear change reduces speed and increases power so you can sew thick assemblies at controlled speeds. Coupled with the powerful Workhorse® Servo Motor, the machine delivers optimal slow-speed performance.

Workhorse® Servo Motor

Our 550 watt, 3/4 horsepower Workhorse Servo Motor provides high torque even from a complete stop. The fully adjustable speed settings allow you to set your top sewing speed while maintaining variable speed control. This quiet, energy-saving motor features a 12-coil design for smooth motor rotation and a fluid motor-to-machine power transfer.

Speed Reducer

The Leatherwork Sewing Machine's built-in speed reducer gives you the power of sewing stitch-by-stitch for ultimate control. The speed reducer, paired with a two-belt drive and pulley system, takes the already slow speed power and control of the Workhorse Servo Motor and slows it down even more, giving you incredible precision and accuracy in your stitching.

Compact Table Stand

The tabletop is compact and saves space — perfect for small workshops, spare bedrooms and small sewing studios. Though compact, the table is still big enough to provide an adequate work surface for your leather assembly. Cutouts in the tabletop let you stow extra bobbins and other small notions so they're within easy reach and won't roll off the table.

Posi-Pin® Safety Shear

Patented by Sailrite (Patent #7438009), the Posi-Pin is designed to protect your machine's internal components from damage when a crash occurs. When you hit a metal snap or zipper, the Posi-Pin will break at its shear point and the machine will stop operating to prevent potential damage and timing issues. Simply replace the pin and get back to sewing with no retiming or tuning required.

Mechanical Walking Foot

The mechanical walking foot feeds leather beautifully by working in conjunction with the feed dog to pull layers of leather and fabric evenly through the machine for consistent stitching.

Presser Foot & Feed Dog

The knurled presser foot and feed dog have been specially designed to grip the leather yet be as gentle as possible so as not to mar the delicate surface. Any feet marks left behind on sensitive leather can easily be buffed away.

Needle Plate Markings

Easily maintain your stitch placement with markers right on the needle plate. Measurements are marked at 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" positions, allowing you to achieve professional looking seams and hems.

EZ Set™ Stitch Length Plate

This proprietary Sailrite sewing machine feature allows you to set your variable stitch length up to 6mm. The spring-loaded stitch length lever lets you easily switch from forward to reverse. Set the thumbscrews to your desired stitch length for consistent stitches in both directions.
