Fiebing's Leather Dye permanently changes the color of leather. Use to color natural leather hides, purses, belts, shoes, saddles, harnesses and more.

Full Description

Description

Fiebing’s Leather Dye permanently changes the color of leather items. It is a true dye, meaning that it soaks into leather instead of just painting the surface. It dries to a matte finish — and although it is alcohol-based, it will leave leather feeling soft and hydrated.

This dye comes in a wide variety of colors that can be applied as-is or mixed to create unique custom shades. It dries uniformly — so no matter how you apply it, you won’t end up with streaks or blotches on your dyed leather item. For less intense color, dilute with a dye reducer.

Fiebing’s Leather Dye is for dyeing leather surfaces, not for coloring or finishing leather edges. This product is for natural leathers; it will not work on suede or synthetic leathers. Use a wool dauber, sponge, artist’s brush or spray nozzle to apply Leather Dye to purses, belts, shoes and boots, saddles and harnesses, and other natural leather items.

Note: Fiebing’s Leather Dye is flammable. Keep away from heat, open flame and other ignition sources. Do not smoke while using this product. Use in a well-ventilated area.

Features:

  • True leather dye that permanently changes leather’s color.
  • Comes in a variety of mixable colors and dries to a matte finish.
  • Use to dye the surface of natural leathers.

Directions:

Follow these instructions to dye a leather piece for the first time or to re-dye a piece that has been dyed in the past.

1. Put on disposable gloves to avoid staining your skin with Leather Dye. Cover your worktable with a mat or other sacrificial surface to protect it from stains.

2. Since all leathers take dye differently, do a test on a scrap piece of the leather you plan to dye. Tweak your color saturation and application method as desired based on this test. Repeat the test on more scrap leather as needed.

3. Once you are finished testing, thoroughly clean the leather item to be dyed with Fiebing’s Deglazer.

4. Once the leather surface is clean, use a wool dauber or sponge to apply dye in a circular motion. If using a spray nozzle, apply dye in overlapping rows. For detail work, use an artist’s brush. If applying dye to an upholstery item with foam padding, take care not to oversaturate the leather, as the dye may soak into the foam and cause it to bleed.

5. Allow the dye to dry fully, then add additional coats as desired.

6. Once the dyed item is fully dry, buff it with a clean, soft cloth to remove any dye that did not soak into the leather.

7. Seal the leather piece with a light coat of Fiebing’s Resolene® for a glossy, water-resistant finish.

8. Allow the Resolene to dry fully before using or wearing the dyed leather item.

Disclaimer: Fiebing’s Leather Dye will not work properly if frozen.
