Description
This Collapsible Support Strut is made of marine grade 316 stainless steel and are 3 feet long when fully extended and have a diameter of 7/8-inch. Locking sleeves protect the hinges when under load, giving them full structural strength. The patented design allows struts to fold flat for minimum storage space.
Pre-fabricated folding struts are a combination of stainless hinges secured in stainless tubing using stainless roll-pins. An oversize sleeve member slides over the hinge area/joint and is locked in place using two spring ball end-stops. This creates a secure joint that cannot be accidentally dislodged and which is fully load bearing.
36-inch (3ft) Collapsible Support Struts are also available in 1-inch tubing with center hinges. 72-inch (6ft) Collapsible Support Struts are available in both 7/8-inch and 1-inch diameter. Sold Each.
Please Note: Sailrite recommends using 2 Eye Ends & 2 Side Mounts for proper installation (not included, sold separately).

Collapsible Grab Rails & Rigid Support Struts for a Dodger or Bimini
Explains why a rigid support may be necessary for our dodger.
Assembled Collapsible Support Struts
Using a collapsible support strut as a hand or grab rail and coupled with rigid support struts will eliminate the need for webbing straps.
Positioning the Grab Rail on the Dodger
How to position the grab rail on a dodger and mark the canvas and tubing.
Dismantling your Dodger
When installing a grab rail in a dodger a reinforcement patch should be sewn to the dodger to provide a secure location for the tubing hardware to exit from the canvas. To do this the dodger must be disassembled to remove the canvas and to install the new hardware for the grab rails and the rigid support struts.
Installing a Leather Patch
How to cut and sew the reinforcement patch of leather on the canvas where each side mount exits the dodger. The side mount hardware is used to mount the grab rail on the dodger. The side mount has a post which exits out of the canvas. Where this post exits it must be reinforced to prevent the canvas from ripping easily.
Reinstall the Dodger & Position Side Mounts
With the dodger installed, position the side mounts on frame and through the dodger. This will make it possible to install the grab rail.
Determining Collapsible Strut Length
How to determine the appropriate length of the Collapsible Struts using a length of string to insure that the hinges fold appropriately.
Cutting Collapsible Struts
How to mark and cut the Collapsible Struts so locking pins and hinges are positioned appropriately.
Installing Grab Rails Using Collapsible Struts
Installing the collapsible grab rails on the dodger and how it works.
Installing Rigid Support Struts
How to install a rigid support strut to the frame and deck of your boat. Rigid struts take the place of webbing straps to support dodger and bimini frames. The use of these struts greatly increases the strength of the frames at the cost of quick and easy knockdown. However, if you use a flat mount plate with a quick release pin it can struts can be removed quickly.
