How to Make a Throw Pillow With Decorative Piping
Take your indoor throw pillows from plain to stylish with decorative piping! This is a very easy way to upgrade a pillow and introduce a chic accent to the throw pillows on your living room couch. Our how-to video walks you step by step through the process of sewing a pillow with decorative piping. Let's get started on this fun and easy DIY.
First, pick the fabric for your throw pillow. We offer a wide selection of home upholstery fabrics in every color under the sun. We also have geometrics, stripes, florals and more if you want a patterned pillow. We have fabric to match every style and aesthetic. Whether you like nautical, floral, contemporary or classic décor, we have a decorative fabric you'll absolutely love. Once you have your fabric, browse our selection of decorative piping to find piping that coordinates with your pillow fabric.
We chose to use a solid fabric, but we added color interest with a two-tone braided piping. This adds more color to your pillow and could coordinate with another piece of furniture or upholstery in your home -- tying the whole room together! We chose Sunbrella® Canvas Vellum Upholstery Fabric (#5498-0000) and sewed our decorative piping on the straight stitch Sailrite® Ultrafeed® LS-1 Sewing Machine.
What other supplies do you need to make this pillow DIY? Well, besides the fabric, premade decorative piping and sewing machine, you'll need thread, scissors or a hotknife, a zipper foot to sew the piping onto the fabric, and other basic sewing supplies. You can get all these items and more right here at Sailrite®. We're your one-stop shop for all things sewing DIY. And we keep everything in stock and ready to ship so you never have to wait long to get started on your next project.
