Hidem gimp is a vinyl finishing trim that's most often used for marine upholstery work. It's a very attractive binding that provides a finished look that conceals staples and fasteners on the edges of boat upholstery, cushions, headliners and more.
Hidem gimp is essentially a strip of marine-grade vinyl upholstery fabric that is center folded with a row of stitching on each side of the fold to secure the layers of material. We sell prefabricated EverSoft™ and Morbern® Seabrook hidem gimp in a variety of colors. However, if your vinyl upholstery fabric does not match prefabricated hidem gimp, it's very easy to make your own. In this short video tutorial, we're going to show you how to sew custom hidem gimp to perfectly match your boat upholstery.
Making your own hidem gimp from vinyl fabric is a simple process and requires just a few materials. For this DIY project, you'll need vinyl upholstery fabric, basting tape, a ruler and marking pencil, scissors, thread and a sewing machine. Another benefit of DIYing hidem gimp is that you can make it whatever width you desire.
