Description
Fabric Backed 1/4" Sew Foam is a thin sheet of high-quality, polyurethane foam that is perfect for upholstery applications. This foam, often called polyurethane foam with fabric backing, scrim foam or sew foam, features a spun-bonded polyester backing. 1/4" Sew Foam is ideal for sewing quilted bags and purses as the foam is thin enough to be flexible and easily shaped.
The backing holds stitches so you can sew through the foam to create pleats or channeling in motorcycle, pontoon and powerboat seats, golf cart backrests and coaming pads. It is not a substitute for actual cushion foam; instead, it is a way to pad and soften hard edges and also to add texture to seating by creating sewn quilted patterns in the covering fabric. This backing also holds adhesives well, making the foam easy to glue in place. Fabric Backed 1/4" Sew Foam can also be used in headliner applications (Note: DO NOT use Foam Lock Spray Adhesive for headliner applications.) Simply glue the spun-bonded side of the foam to the hull, and then glue Nauga Soft or another vinyl to the foam side using an adhesive. If attaching a translucent/light colored material over this sew foam check to ensure the color does not show through.
Note 1: This item may consist of two pieces. Color of foam may vary.
Note 2: To save on shipping costs, this item is folded and compressed. We recommend unrolling the foam sheet as soon as possible. Compressed foam takes up to a week to regain its original size and shape. Allow foam to fully decompress before cutting or using in a project.

Use in handmade purses
I use this product to give my handmade purses some added body. It is a great price point compared to other similar produces for that use.
Was not happy that is came in a compressed ball. Had to wait a week to use it
Sailrite Response
I'm glad to see that you are happy with the quality of the sew foam you ordered. Sailrite compresses foam for shipping primarily to reduce any potential damage in transit, but also to help lower shipping costs. We trust you understand that this policy helps to protect your items.
Absolutely terrible packaging. 5 yards of foam was rolled into a ball, compressed and wrapped tightly in plastic. IF the foam is usable at all with all the crease lines and compression it will take a week , at least, to be useable. Customer service was unhelpful and didn't even want to accept a return at first, then agreed to if I paid for shipping back. They also got the total wrong on the RMA and were unhelpful fixing that. I will never shop with them again if at all possible.
Sailrite Response
We’re sorry to learn you were disappointed in the foam you received. Sailrite does fold, roll and compress sheets of foam to significantly reduce shipping costs for our customers. Our description does mention that it can take up to a week for the foam to relax once opened and unrolled. Customer service issued a Return Authorization the very same day (less shipping costs).
