There’s nothing like a custom touch to make your boat stand out at the dock. A bimini boot isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a crucial piece of protection that keeps your expensive bimini fabric clean, dry, and protected from UV damage when it's folded away. The best part? You can complete this entire project in just over an hour using only two yards of fabric!
A Project for Every Boat
While we featured a pontoon boat with a square frame in this video, the principles Eric demonstrates work for any setup. From powerboats with round tubing to sleek sailboats, the measurements and sewing techniques remain the same. The design covers a width of up to 106 inches, making it a versatile solution for most standard bimini tops.

Key Techniques You'll Learn
Eric breaks down the process into manageable steps that even a beginner can master:
- Smart Patterning: See how to maximize just two yards of fabric by cutting and folding it into a strategic "I" shape.
- Handling Obstacles: Does your boat have a light pole or backstays? We show you exactly how to create professional-looking openings and bind them for a clean finish.
- Zipper Secrets: Learn the pro trick for sewing a zipper onto a curve by pulling the fabric straight—a technique that makes the job a total breeze.
Featured Sailrite Supplies
To achieve professional-grade results, using the right tools makes all the difference. In this video, we utilize:
- Top Notch® 9 Fabric: This 60-inch-wide fabric is ideal for marine environments because it's durable and looks great on both sides.
- Sailrite® Ultrafeed® Sewing Machine: Our go-to for handling multiple layers of heavy-duty marine fabric and zippers with ease.
- Seamstick 1/4" Basting Tape: A must-have for keeping your panels perfectly aligned before you hit the sewing machine.
- YKK® Zippers & Snap Cap Top Stops: These provide a secure closure and a polished finish that stands up to the wind.
