A lightweight clear plastic sheeting that works great as a patterning material. Dura-Skrim® is reinforced with a high-density polyethylene ribbon weave to produce a highly tear resistant film where the ribbons shift and bunch in response to a tearing force. As a result, Dura-Skrim is stretch and tear resistant and can be pulled tight over a frame or around an object without stretching out of shape. Perfect for patterning a dodger, bimini or enclosure! Dura-Skrim is also used for construction enclosures, temporary liners or covers, erosion control, shipping and packaging, fumigation covers, temporary walls and remediation covers.

More specifically, Dura-Skrim is a clear four-layer reinforced extrusion laminate. The outer layers consist of clear high-strength polyethylene film and they are reinforced with a minimum of a 1000 denier scrim laid in a diagonal pattern spaced 3/8 inch apart with an additional machine direction scrim every 9 inches across the width. The individual plies are then laminated together with molten polyethylene. The lowest temperature that this tough material can tolerate is -70ºF and the highest is 180ºF.

Use Seamstick to temporarily stick the pattern material in place for a tight, wrinkle-free patterning surface to trace. Mark seam and cutting lines directly on the clear plastic. Remove the pattern and transfer it to the actual canvas. This clear patterning material makes patterning very easy!

To aid in patterning around hard objects like tubing and fiberglass, Sailrite recommends using Filament Strapping Tape, or blue painter’s tape, and then applying Seamstick over the top to hold the pattern material in place. Using both will avoid leaving a sticky residue on the attachment surface when it’s time to remove the Seamstick.

Please note: Dura-Skrim will ship folded unless a full 100-yard roll is ordered. The manufacturer lists the size of the width as 74 inches; however, we have found that the width size varies up to 1 inch.

Dura-Skrim is recyclable as a #7 mixed plastic.
