YKK® SNAD® Fastener Adhesive-Backed Flexible Base Stud Clear 25mm

YKK^® SNAD^® Clear 25mm Adhesive-Backed Flexible Base Stud - No tool, no wait, no splits, no hole! Clear color is almost invisible and blends into virtually any base.

Tested by marine canvas professionals as a high performing metal snap alternative that attaches to a surface with adhesive rather than screws - very forgiving of the DIYer! The flexible silicone body makes this snap stud the perfect choice when needing to install a fastener on a curved or uneven surface. In fact, we recommend using a silicone SNAD only on curved surfaces, and they must be used with nickel-plated brass sockets.

The SNAD stud secures to boat surfaces with a pad of 3M™ VHB™ acrylic conformable adhesive tape (located on the underside of the silicone body) that enables the snap to adhere to boat surfaces without having to drill a hole. For more than 20 years the VHB™ product line has proven to be tough in marine, automotive, medical, aerospace and architectural applications. YKK has adapted the VHB adhesive with its patented design to bring flexibility and convenience to the marine industry. It’s as easy as cleaning the application surface, peeling off the protective paper backing, positioning and firmly holding the snap in place.

The YKK SNAD Stud can be used wherever a conventional screw stud might be used. For example, use adhesive backed fasteners for marine carpeting for decks and cushions, and for lightweight sunscreen applications. The 25mm size is not intended for load-bearing applications. If you need a SNAD to hold weight, choose the 40mm size. You can also use SNADs to replace existing screw studs without the need to fill in the screw hole.

Surface Preparation Instructions and Application Guidelines: Snap components will adhere to most clean, dry and well-unified surfaces. Typical surface cleaning solvents are a 50/50 Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) water mixture. Let air dry or wipe dry with a soft lint-free cloth before applying fastener. Remove liner from back of disk. Position snap and roll into place. Press down on the snap working all the way around the snap and in the center to secure to substrate.

Please Note: These flexible base studs adhere great to curved surfaces but should not be used elsewhere as snapping and unsnapping is very difficult due to the flex of the silicone base. For flat surfaces, choose SNAD fasteners with a plastic, domed stud.

Note: Sailrite strongly recommends priming your surface with 3M™ Tape Primer 94 Adhesive Promoter (#104166) for best adhesion results.

Application Pressure: Bond strength is dependent upon the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure develops a better adhesive contact and thus improves bond strength.

Application Temperature: Ideal tape application temperature range is 70ºF to 100ºF (21ºC to 38ºC).

Dwell Time: After application, the bond strength increases and approaches the ultimate bond strength after 72 hours at 70ºF (21ºC). Typical bond strength build-up: 20 minutes equals 50% bond strength, one hour equals 75% bond strength, one day equals 90% bond strength, and three days equals 100% bond strength.

Flexible SNADs & 3M Primer 94: 3M Primer 94 (sold separately) has been used for better adhesion of flexible SNADs on rigid inflatable boats made of Hypalon. Normally stainless steel tubing is an excellent material for VHB tape that is found on SNADs. However, when the application calls for a tight curl on a SS tube or rail (less than 2" diameter) the Primer 94 provides additional attachment strength to prevent flexible silicone SNAD body from "uncurling" off surface.
