Summary

Crystal Clear Vinyl Material is a 30 gauge press polished window material with a clear tint designed for marine and automotive applications.

Full Description

Description

Crystal Clear Vinyl Material is a 30 gauge press polished clear window material designed for marine applications. Crystal Clear is made using the same quality vinyl and processing as Strataglass (without the coating) and has good optical clarity with no haziness, dimples, distortion or fish eyes. Crystal Clear can be sewn just like fabric and is a great window material for marine windows and enclosures.

Crystal Clear Installation

Baste window material in place with seamstick over the fabric. Sew the window in place using a #18 needle (with Tex 70 thread) or #20 needle (with Tex 90 thread). After sewing, use scissors to trim away the fabric from the window. Bind the raw edges with binding for a more finished appearance.

Crystal Clear Care and Cleaning

Wash regularly with mild soap and water, rinsing away salt and debris first - beware of washing with trapped grit in your cloth mitt. To prolong the life of Crystal Clear, use 303® UV Aerospace Protectant or IMAR™ on a regular basis to help restore plasticizer protection and add UV protection. Do not leave window curtains rolled up over a prolonged period of time. Roll down and snap into place nightly to avoid fold distortion or cloudiness from trapped water. The manufacturer suggests not using products like Rain-X, Pledge or Plexus as they will cause hazing, discoloration and distortion over time.

Why do vinyl windows turn cloudy and become brittle?

The key to keeping vinyl looking and performing like new is maintaining the integrity of the topcoat and protecting against UV damage. Vinyl fabrics contain plasticizers, chemicals that make them soft and pliable, and over time these chemicals work their way to the surface and evaporate, wash away or rub off. The top coat (PVF or PVDF) is applied to block plasticizers from migrating out of the material.

Top coats, such as 303 Aerospace Protectant or IMAR™, greatly increase the life of vinyl windows, especially those left up permanently. Their effectiveness is reduced on applications that are taken on and off or folded regularly.

Please Note: The manufacturer lists the size of the sheet as 54" x 110"; however, we have found that the sheet size varies up to 3" in length and 1" in width.

It’s always like Christmas when a box from sailrite shows up! I got a new foam saw yesterday along with a sewing tool my workroom is never without, Seamstick basting tape. Sailrite and I have similar outlooks on life, that is to not only deliver high quality products and services but also to teach! There are so many amazing tutorials and references guides on their website. I have gained so much knowledge from them which makes me a better teacher. Here’s an example. Between the time I placed this latest order and its arrival, I got two emails from Sailrite. One had information on how to use the basting tape and the second was a video overview of their foam saw. I personally believe this is service beyond the norm. This is not a sponsored post by the way! Sailrite is just a company I turn to on the regular and I’m confident in referring my students to them as well!
