How to Make an Anchor Riding Sail Kit

X-HT-200115

An anchor riding sail helps keep your boat pointed in one direction instead of swinging from side to side while anchored, giving you increased comfort. It also helps prevent damage to your anchor by reducing the rocking and rolling motion, as the motion puts alternating stress on your anchor from left to right. It's easy to sew an anchor riding sail for your boat. Order the Sailrite® Anchor Riding Sail Kit and follow our video tutorial to learn how to assemble and sew your sail.

Sailrite’s Anchor Riding Sail Kits come pre-plotted on white Top Gun® fabric. Top Gun fabric is an excellent choice for a small sail like an anchor riding sail. Top Gun is UV and chafe resistant. It's also extremely durable with superior tear and abrasion resistance.

Anchor Riding Sail Kits come with the fabric, hardware and notions you need to assemble and sew your sail. Basic sewing tools and supplies — not included in the kit — are also required to sew the sail. These include a ruler, tape measure, cutting tool (we recommend a hotknife) and a heavy-duty or industrial sewing machine that can sew Tex 90 thread. The sail corners are multiple layers of fabric and webbing; a home machine will not be able to handle this thickness.

The assembly process of an anchor riding sail is similar to that of our larger sail kits, so making one of these small sails can be a good practice run for those thinking about building their own larger sails.
