Good instructions. Could use some more “heads up “ type information such as “make sure this seam is at least this big in order to hold the grommets “ etc . Overall I made a very nice looking sail cover .

These patterns may not be a cookie cutter template for your boat. Take extra measurements.

First off, I did learn a lot about how to make a good quality mainsail cover from this booklet and I will continue to use the basic pattern ideas for my projects on other boats. That said, I was disappointed when I realized that the section that will wrap around the mast is way too big. I used the pattern for a boom that is between 10' and 13' long (Pattern #1152) for my 30' boat. My mast has an approximate circumference of 22". The finished cover from this pattern accommodates a mast circumference of 31". That leaves a huge gap that will look pretty sloppy when you have to tuck all that extra material in. I will be doing some alterations to make it fit properly but my advice is to measure the circumference of your mast beforehand and adjust the pattern accordingly. The book is well worth the $6 although a little more detail, drawing and pictures would be more helpful.

    Lazy jack instructions are wrong.

The book is generally helpful, but the instructions for the lazy jack line slit cover are incorrect. If you sew the flap according to the instructions, your seam will be on the wrong side and you'll need a seam ripper and a few choice curse words to correct the problem. This is not what I expected from Sailrite.

    Sailrite Response

I think we already solved this mistake with the last booklet update just over a year ago. I have reviewed the current version carefully and it is correct. I have emailed you privately to see if I can get you the current copy. Sorry about the need to make corrections.
