One of the simplest ways to add extra protection against moisture to your upholstery jobs is to equip foam with moisture barriers. These low-cost protectors create a noise-free barrier between the cushion foam and fabric cover to keep the foam protected from moisture. Here at Sailrite®, we recommend adding silk cushion wrap to your High Density Polyurethane Foam to deter moisture buildup which the foam will soak up like a sponge. Some of these moisture barriers can also make cushion foams easier to install into a fabric cushion cover. Use this material to wrap cockpit cushions, patio cushions, saloon cushions and more made with polyurethane foam.
Cushion wrap silk foam is a good option for anyone looking for a high-quality, silent plastic silk film to simplify installing fabric cushion covers. Available by the yard and roll at Sailrite, this type of moisture barrier is formulated for silent use beneath decorative or contract fabrics. To use cushion wrap silk, you’ll need to use a vacuum to shrink the foam by up to 70% before you insert into the fabric cover. This allows for quick, simple foam installation and ensures that the foam evenly fills the cushion, even into the corners. Please note that this type of barrier should not be left on Dry Fast Foam since this type of foam has its own moisture barrier properties.
