Sailrite® sewing machines all feature a high-tech tension assembly that helps it perform at its best. Over time, the springs and other components within the assembly can become damaged. Sailrite can help you replace individual components such as the tension springs or release pins, or perform a complete tension assembly overhaul. It may seem like a large job, but replacing the tension assembly on your sewing machine is actually relatively simple and affordable. Many of these assemblies work on Sailrite and non-Sailrite machines, including sewing machines by Brother and more. If you need any assistance along the way, you can always rely on the Sailrite team for advice.
One of the most common parts that can be damaged in your tension assembly is the take-up spring, which can occasionally become broken or twisted out of place. If this is the only issue you can identify, you can simply replace the take-up spring itself (available in our collection of springs) rather than performing a complete tension assembly replacement. This is relatively easy to perform by removing the knob of the tension assembly. To completely replace your upper or thread tension assembly, you’ll need a kit for your particular model. These kits include the dial, tension disks and the spring, but do not include the tension release pin.
