Cape George 31 Ketch Sail Data

# X-SD-8868

Sailboat Description

"Bristol Pilot Cutter" type. 31' on deck, 36' LOA w/bowsprit. Full keel. Displacement 15,835 lbs. as typical yard build; owner completions vary to heavier displacements if interiors overbuilt. Cutter rig. Following sail measurements from yard-supplied blueprints. Some deviations noted for short, standard or tall rigs that were optional. Ballasted with 7,600 lbs lead plus 47 gals. water, 45 gals. diesel and approx 500 lbs engine, all below roll center, yield nearly 8,800 lbs. effective ballast. Beam of 9'6" permits ready 5 degree heel in light wind after which massive ballast stiffens boat. Blueprints list main at 282.5 sq ft, 100% yankee at 352 sq ft, and 130% genoa at 458.5 sq ft. Heavy ballast will carry the 741 sq ft of main & genoa well into 20 kt winds before 1st reef is called for. HOWEVER, this means KATE can put high stress on sail cloth.

*A computer algorithm was used to determine this figure based on partial data (usually the I, J, E, and P). These data points should be carefully checked. More Details >

Please Note: Most of our sail dimensions are based on class rules, designer blueprints, or measurements of sails. These dimensions are intended as starting points only. Sailboats are not all uniform, even from the same designer. We recommend carefully measuring your boat if you are uncertain about dimensions.

All dimensions are intended to be maximum and smaller sails are not wrong.

We've limited our listing to the sails most commonly used, but these are not the only ones appropriate for a given boat.
